Plastique Fantastique is a Berlin-based architecture firm that is known for creating thought-provoking inflatable installations. The firm's latest work is a temporary installation inspired by Homer's 'Odyssey' and the current refugee crisis.
'Liveboat' is one of several inflatable installations created by Plastique Fantastique. The structure itself consists of a building-size inflatable life raft that visitors can walk through. As visitors enter the structure, they will be able to hear a passage from the Odyssey detailing one man's long journey home and the struggles he faced along the way. The idea is to relate Odysseus' heroic trip to that of the current journey many Syrian refugees are embarking on. In turn, the architects hope to encourage solidarity among Germans and the refugees by drawing on the iconic story.
