To make a more spacious and open ice rink interior, OBIA took inspiration from tree leafs and created a latticed design that encompasses the entire building. Instead of feeling claustrophobic while playing at the indoor arena, patrons can now feel closer to their surroundings and enjoy more natural sunlight.
Inside, the original design contained a wooden wall to separate two sections, however OBIA adjusted this part of the ice rink interior to be fitted with glass. This alteration again opens up the building so that skaters can feel as if they are in a bigger space. Supposedly the design also helps with energy efficiency too, which in this day and age would be great considering how environmentally unfriendly various places in the world can be - every little bit helps!
