Most lodges and hotels nestled in icy mountains are all about rustic chic luxury, sipping red wine by the fire and charming country-inspired interiors, but that is definitely not the case with the German IgluLodge ice hotel.
This wintry getaway is snuggled in the mountainous terrains of the Allgäu Alps near Oberstdorf, Germany. Similar to other ice hotels, the IgluLodge design philosophy is all about visually appealing lines and warm textures to counter the iciness of the place. However, what makes IgluLodge different and a whole lot cooler is the sculptural work of local artists they feature on their walls.
"The interior design makes our guests speechless over and over again," says owner Matthias Lenz.
The shocking artistic factor in the design is everywhere -- it's literally on all the walls. There are tons of faces; some angry, some western-themed and some even of frogs. These faces just pop out at you; the different themes and shapes of these faces vary from guest rooms to the bar to the very intense restaurant.
