The Human Ivory project seeks to prove a point about the fact that using animals for the purpose of extracting their ivory is not only unethical, but unnecessary.
While there are people and groups taking steps toward resolving the issue of illegal poaching, there have been few results that are significant enough to slow down the problem, let alone resolve it. The artist Lucie Majerus attempts to make a point about the ivory trade with her Human Ivory project. As part of this project the designer created jewelry pieces from her own teeth -- a material that resembles that of ivory.
