The Hong Kong Police Force has recently introduced a new metaverse platform named 'CyberDefender,' aimed at mitigating the potential hazards associated with the metaverse. This platform safeguards the citizens of Hong Kong as they engage in Web3 and metaverse activities, primarily by fostering risk awareness and providing educational resources about the technology.
“The decentralized nature of virtual assets in Web3 may also increase the likelihood of cyber criminals targeting endpoint devices, virtual asset wallets, and smart contracts," said Ip Cheuk-yu, chief inspector of the platform’s developer.
Hong Kong has joined many other governments in embracing decentralized technologies. The special administrative city wants to foster economic growth by developing into a hub for virtual assets worldwide; by launching cybersecurity measures, the city can protect its citizens from digital theft and crime.
