Zodiac Seats France recently presented a new design for staggering plane seats in a hexagonal arrangement. The seating arrangement is called 'Economy Class Cabin Hexagon' and the purpose of the new design is to make flying a little bit more comfortable for economy class passengers.
The Economy Class Cabin Hexagon plan would maintain the idea of seating three passengers per row, but in a hexagonal arrangement. This means that passengers would be squeezed together in an interlocking pattern. According to the company, the purpose of arranging seats in this way is "to increase cabin density while also creating seat units that increase the space available at the shoulder and arm area."
While the hexagonal seating arrangement may not be ideal for all passengers, the new design does demonstrate that airlines are making efforts to try and improve comfort in economy class seating.
