ALA Architects Designs a Specious and Bright Helsinki Library
Kalin Ned — January 10, 2019 — Art & Design
Finnish studio ALA Architects creates a stunning and incredible floorplan for this Helsinki Library.
The wavy roof of the structure is surely a point of interest. However, attention is drawn to the interior experience of the public facility as it utilizes contemporary sensibilities and optimizes light influx through circular skylights that are inserted in the ceiling.
The educational institution is at the crossroads of "technology and progressive values." The Helsinki library is an eclectic hybrid that embraces a number of knowledge modes. Aside from its extensive collection of books, the facility features communal spaces in the spirit of collaborative practices, a cinema, recording studios, spaces for exhibition and events. In a sense, the Central Library Oodi encourages experimentation and the active sharing of knowledge.
