The prickly hair art photography by photographers Maxime Strange and Pauline Darley features toothpick headdresses. The visual artist collaboration has resulted in a series of amazingly unusual captures. The photos were inspired by the traditional bold English bob haircut style. The photographers wanted to combine strong and graphic structure with texture without actually using hair. The photographers instead used 2,000 toothpicks for each headdress. The toothpicks used were regular, strong and "slender" shaped similar to that of hair.
The toothpicks were painted one by one with some diluted gouache in order for the wood to show through and add texture. The headdresses emphasize depth and dynamic. The ultimate goal of the hair art photography was to recreate the lightness of hair and the boldness of the traditional choppy haircut with foreign materials.
