As the name of the Globe Chair gives away, the design takes on a spherical shape. Yet because of the nature of the piece of furniture, the sphere isn't completed. So, in a way, it ends up looking like a sort of shell, particularly the ones belonging to pill bugs. Yet aside from that one comparison, there is nothing insect-y about the Globe Chair.
Designed by Michiel van Gageldonk, a student currently studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven, the Globe Chair is constructed out of two types of wood. It appears that solid wood makes up the base while a more flexible plywood is used for the seat itself. Created in sections, the seat and backrest look as though they could be adjusted, yet it seems that is not the case at all.
