Doesn't it feel wrong to toss out an old phone book when the next edition arrives? Just think of all of that wasted paper! Now look at this pair of projects by artist Gemis Luciani, and perhaps you'll get an idea about how to give the next one a creative second use.
Research and curiosity drove Luciani to repurpose these telephone directories. The artist cut, curled, folded and completely disfigured these volumes to see what intriguing forms the thick stacks of paper would take. Using the residential white pages, the Piece of Space series explores the sorts of forms one might find in the city. In Flexible Shapes, Gemis Luciani contorted and transformed the yellow pages repeatedly to discover the tome's durability.
