Epitaph is a portrait series that consists of farm animal photos captured by the New Zealand-based photographer Cally Whitham.
Whitham captured her photos in a number of farms spread out around rural New Zealand. Nearly every animal captured in the photo has since passed away. What's amazing about this photo series is that each animal's tenderness, grace and innocence is thrust into the spotlight. It's impossible to look at these photos and not feel a great sympathy for living beings that are treated like commercial food products.
As the global farming industry continues to grow, people have begun to increasingly see farm animals as mere commodities while ignoring their inherent dignity. These farm animal photos show that animals like cows, pigs, sheep and chickens have personalities and deserve our respect.
