Forget your associations with fast food and unhealthy grease. Citizens of Austin and Brooklyn are choosing to get their quick fix at unique, on-the-go venues Flip Happy Crepes and Red Hook Ball Fields, respectively.
IG's trend central gave a description of each in their latest trend report:
Red Hook - Brooklyn, New York
"Surrounding Red Hook's well known soccer fields is a bank of 13 separate vendors, boasting the best of Latin and South American foods. While we'd like to reveal all the details, it's best to discover some for yourself, so here are a few selections to get your mouth watering: spicy fresh Ecuadorian shrimp and squid ceviche (served cocktail style in a plastic cup); Mexican elote (grilled corn) charred to perfection, squeezed with lemon, then slathered with creamy queso blanco, mayo, and chili powder; hot and gooey Salvadoran pupusas (cornmeal cakes) stuffed with beans and cheese w/ a side of purple slaw; and aguas frescas ranging from bright red watermelon to brown tamarindo to rich purple Jamaica (made from hibiscus flowers). The vendors have been officially approved to stay till October, so hold off on starting your diet until then."
Flip Happy - Austin, Texas
"Behind a landscape nursery in Austin lies an Airstream with a French flair. Girl duo Nessa Higgins and Andrea Boykins prepare and sell their creations out of a fancy silver trailer, generating what has come to be a cultlike fanbase for their sweet and savory crepes, all under 6 bucks. Crisp on the outside, and jumbo stuffed with goodness on the inside, our favorites include the following: Cuban inspired shredded pork, cheddar, Tabasco, pickles and mustard; veggie friendly Tarragon mushroom, Gruyere, caramelized onion, spinach and tomato; and for dessert, lemon curd with blueberry dressing. Take a seat at one of the picnic benches, under a sea of sparkly string lights, and fill up."
