Volvo has announced a new joint venture with Starbucks whereby the brand will bring its EV charging stations to numerous coffee shops across the country. The first location the companies are targeting is the 1,350-mile-long path between Denver and Seattle. Along this path, Volvo will install approximately 60 EV chargers at 15 different Starbucks locations.
The 15 Starbucks locations are individually separated by roughly 100 miles, which is well within the distance range of most electric vehicles. There will be 'ChargePoint DC' chargers with both 'CHAdeMO' and 'CCS' outputs. There will be standard and 'Express Plus' chargers, capable of delivering 62.5 kW and 350 kW respectively. This range of compatibility and charging speed provides nearly any EV owner with the ability to charge their vehicle.
This test project will be effective at showcasing both the practicality of EV-charging coffee shops and the demand for more EV chargers in general.
