Essence Magazine is curating its own Beautybox especially for women of color.
Beauty product subscription services are a hugely popular service for women (and increasingly, for men, too). The idea is that each month, women get a new parcel of fun-sized makeups, moisturizers and other unique products to sample and experiment with. For women of color, though, these monthly deliveries yield more frustration than fun as anything "nude," "skin-colored," or "neutral" is made for white skin tones, and customization in hair type ends at "straight" or "curly."
Essence Magazine, whose readers are predominantly black, has decided to start their own subscription service so that their readership can truly enjoy and use a monthly package of new products. Women will be able to choose their accurate skin tone and hair type when they subscribe and the Beautybox will showcase products by black women entrepreneurs.
