A series of portraits by designer Ercan Akkaya put a super-retro spin on superheroes. Taking inspiration from 8-bit graphics of the past, Akkaya created a series of simplified heroes. Each illustration focuses in on the defining characteristics of the heroes in order to fit the new simplified form. Instead of the millions of pixels to illustrate heroes, Akkaya used only a handful.
To add a small sense of realism to the drawings, the artist threw in some depth. Each portrait has the hero against a white background with their shadow behind them.
Akkaya picked 15 of the most well known superheroes to illustrate. From Batman to Nick Fury, Akkata covered a diverse range of comic book characters. Many of the characters were taken from the X-Men and Avenger series.
