The EpiCenter Expansion Building Will Generate its Own Electricity
Rahul Kalvapalle — November 28, 2014 — Eco
Architectural practice Behnisch Architekten are developing the EpiCenter Expansion in Boston, which is all set to become the biggest energy-positive commercial building in New England. The building will call itself home to the Artists for Humanity youth charity.
The EpiCenter Expansion will be fitted with its own electricity-generating technologies, including photovoltaic arrays, solar arrays and geothermal generation facilities.
The structure will be constructed to allow for passive solar tempering, the moderation of internal warmth via orientation to natural sunlight during the day. The building's glass windows will be equipped with redirection and daylight enhancement technologies to provide better natural lighting and temperature regulation inside the building.
The EpiCenter Expansion is set to be open in November 2016.
