It's about time to ditch the electric bike and skateboard because electric skates are coming to town. The first of is kind, they are essentially a futuristic version of rollerblades. Strapped to the feet, these electric skates offer smart wearable mobility that doesn't require a remote to work. Instead, they are controlled by an on-board microprocessor and powered by a lithium-ion battery pack.
Designed by Los Angeles-based Peter Treadway and dubbed the ACTON R RocketSkates, these electric skates can be likened to Segways in that it is the body, specifically the feet, that control their direction and speed. There is also an Acton app that monitors the electric skates and their performance while tracking routes, battery status and social interactivity--the app allows the skater to keep in touch with other RocketSkaters.
