Panasonic Automotive—a global expert in infotainment solutions and connectivity—debuted at CES last year, a fully connected SPYDR eCockpit that is claimed to be next-generation. The system made use of the company's proprietary SkipGen 3.0 in-vehicle infotainment system, as well as Google's Android Automotive OS.
At CES 2021, the SPYDR platform was enhanced with a new augmented reality head-up display. In combination with artificial intelligence, the tech can render near-field and far-field content, displaying speed and pedestrian detection. In addition, the AR HUD relies on eye-tracking technology "to project information at a driver's level of sight." The tech behaves in similar ways as a GPS display.
During a press event on Monday, Scott Kirchner—the president of Panasonic Automotive—shared that the company is working toward realizing a vision that "makes the cabin of a vehicle like a second home."
