Sumitomo Metal Mining Co Presents the Down-Less Down Jacket
Japanese manufacturer Sumitomo Metal Mining Co introduces its new Solament material with the Down-Less Down Jacket silhouette. Solament is a new material that produces heat using infrared light conversion and this was presented during the annual SXSW festival.
To create the jacket, the manufacturer worked with designer and consultant Kosuke Tsumura to optimize the material's potential. The coat appears to be a classic puffer coat silhouette with hollow visuals between the layers where feathers would usually be filled. Tsumura explains "The apparel industry is known for having one of the highest environmental footprints. Solament is a fascinating, futuristic material harnessing solar energy. It grants excellent warmth, enabling effects comparable to down jackets without using actual down."
