This Digital Driving License is Being Trialed in Finland
Michael Hemsworth — February 5, 2018 — Tech
Smartphones have become quite ubiquitous amongst consumers in North America and Europe, which is seeing the development of a digital driving license to eliminate the need for a traditional plastic card option.
The license would be available in the form of the 'Autoilija' app that has been created by Great Apes in collaboration with the Finnish transport safety agency Trafi. This would enable the most recent photo of the driver to be uploaded automatically from governmental databases to ensure enhanced security, while also keeping all other relevant information up-to-date. At present, the program is being trialed in Finland as a compliment to traditional permits rather than a replacement.
As more consumers adopt smartphones as a communication solution and become more comfortable with the dissolution of traditional identification, we could see the digital driving license be adopted internationally at an accelerated rate.
