Yandex is currently testing an autonomous delivery robot, titled the 'Rover.' The delivery robot is equipped with lidar, and a number of other sensors, in order to navigate its environment. Using its sensors, the robot is able to change its course to avoid potential obstacles. The robot will travel on sidewalks, so avoiding pedestrians will be vital to creating a functional autonomous delivery robot. Yandex indicated that the Rover is able to travel at a speed similar to an average human walking.
Currently, the robot is being tested at Yandex facilities, which are located in Moscow. Testing is being conducted under various weather conditions, in order to acclimate the robot to making deliveries in all conditions.
