The D Face Oscar Sculpture Makes Social Commentary on the Movie Business
Alex Scott — March 11, 2010 — Pop Culture
Though millions tuned in last Sunday night to watch the Academy Awards, the Oscars aren't for everybody. One person in particular who has a beef with the ceremony, and indeed Hollywood in general, is British social artist D Face. His latest work, the D Face Oscar Sculpture, shows the iconic statue with its skin melting off, exposing its skeletal frame.
The D Face Oscar Sculpture features the engraving 'Beauty is Skin Deep,' making a commentary on the present situation in today's entertainment industry. I think it's always great to see a left of center take on mainstream media--it helps open the eyes.
