New York-based design studio The Very Many creates a structure that combines functional intent with a curved installation. The project is for a leisure center located in El Paso, Texas. The sculpture-like canopy boasts a vibrant dual color palette and is made out of "hundreds of lightweight aluminum shingles that are cut to diamond-shaped panels."
The curved installation offers small sculptural seating areas at its base and provides some relief from the sizzling sun. The Very Many chooses yellow and blue as primary colors with the intent of stimulating a chromatically induced analogous relationship between warmth and coldness. Dubbed 'Marquise,' the curved installation and its intricate arrangement gives off a certain illusory effect and provides a playful sculptural element to an otherwise unembellished public space.
