Shopify Added a Curbside Pickup Option to Help Merchants Sell
Daniel Johnson — July 8, 2020 — Business
Shopify added a curbside pickup option to its e-commerce platform. The curbside pickup option comes as part of a reworked point-of-sale system. The company indicated that the new system simplifies the process and allows companies to integrate instructions for curbside pickup, which can take place at retail locations. Giving customers the option to pick up items outside of the store will reduce foot traffic inside a store, and help to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Shopify's new point-of-sale system also has the ability to track sales figures each day, as well as average sales values and purchase sizes. This data can help companies identify key products, which may help future operations. Ian Black, the Shopify director of retail, stated that the new system will retail companies transition to changes in the industry from COVID-19.
