The UFC Updated Its COVID-19 Protocol Ahead of Its Next Event
Daniel Johnson — May 27, 2020 — Business
The UFC is one of the only sports organizations that are operational, and recently it updated its COVID-19 protocol ahead of the May 30th event. The new COVID-19 protocols were shared through a memo outlining the new changes for the event, which will take place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
The athletes will need to take two swab tests when they arrive in Las Vegas, and again after making weight. After the second round of testing the athletes will remain in their hotel room until their scheduled competition. Leaving the hotel can only happen with approval from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. Additionally, people at the event are not to have physical contact with any person not in their camp.
Overall the UFC is uniquely positioned to remain operational, due to competitions only needing two people. However other sports leagues may monitor the UFC's protocols to assess best practices.
