A new contemporary hotel was established in the Huangmuchang Village on the outskirts of Beijing China. The structure is unique, curvacious, and carries striking modern sensibilities—all aspects that contribute to its desirability as a travel destination.
The contemporary hotel is playfully named the Sleeping Lab and the project was headed by the Shanghai-based studio Atelier d’More. The structure was a residence and an office before the renovation. As such, the floorplan included an enclosed courtyard which is "commonly seen in homes in the area." Atelier d’More decided to take advantage of this feature and "transformed it into an internal viewing point for the guests of the hotel." The courtyard is tranquil in design. Because of its placement, it also offers a degree of privacy for guests.
