Interior design and architecture firm Commune Design has been recruited to revamp the hospitality space located in the JW Marriott hotel tower in Downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Inspired by Japan’s kissas, the new sushi restaurant and vinyl bar, 888, is a tribute to Japanese culture, design, and music appreciation.
The space blends retro 1970s aesthetics with classic Japanese craftsmanship, featuring wood-paneled walls and partitions that evoke a warm, intimate atmosphere. The interior is brought to life through a bold color palette, incorporating mustard yellow, deep green, magenta, and maroon textile wall coverings alongside recycled gym flooring and patterned upholstery reminiscent of underground jazz clubs from a bygone era.
Other notable design work comes from Devon Turnbull, Adam Pogue, and Sofia Londono.
