An innovative and reusable chewing gum container was emerging designer Dorcas Chu's answer to gum littering. The design comes from the realization that "chewing gum is the second most littered item in the world and 80 to 90 percent of chewing gum is not disposed of properly." Hence, Dorcas Chu's reusable chewing gum container has implications for sustainability.
From research to completion, this project was informed by IDEO methods, otherwise referred to as human-centered design that takes a creative approach to problem-solving. It starts with the user and ends with the innovation which is tailored-made to suit the user's needs. This project was recognized with the Australian Industrial Product Design Graduate of the Year from the Design Institute of Australia. It was showcased as part of the Dezeen School Shows.
