Art and design are often said to be a mirror of nature, yet few examples like the Chair Leaf by Milos Jovanovic exist that demonstrate any sympathy towards their source and inspiration.
Called the List chairs in Serbian which translates back to Leaf, the lovely lumber loungers take their shapes quite apparently from the forms of tree leaves. The first model composes the piece of foliage as the backrest and seat, while the second extends the full frond into the supporting pedestal as well. Both share the elegant inclusion of a central spine and veins in the under structure of the furnishings, constructed to hold the minimally processed panels of plywood that give the Chair Leaf by Milos Jovanovic its compelling organic shape. The creator even proposes that the objects be flatpack shipped to reduce the energy, costs and labor associated with transportation, leaving the buyer to assemble the piece at home.
