Google announced that it will be donating 4,000 Chromebooks and 100,000 hotspots to California students. The donation was made to help California students continue their education remotely due to the outbreak of COVID-19. Google's announcement was made by the company’s CEO Sundar Pichai through a Tweet. The donated equipment will subsequently be distributed to the students through the California Department of Education, where students in rural communities will be regarded as a high priority.
The donation will be able to help students work remotely and continue their studies through uncertain times. Additionally, it shows that Google is taking the virus seriously, and it is taking on a cooperate leadership role, and showcasing its philanthropic side.
