Dutch design studio Barde vanVoltt designs the interiors of a Calico Club store location which is inside of a century-old farmhouse in the Netherlands. The inspiration stems from elements of Japanese zen gardens which can be reflected in details such as the rippled mirrored glass, pebbles and boulders, and more. The design approach also aims to blend the brand's Dutch heritage with Japanese tranquility.
The floor plan is also made to reflect a zen garden with water and plants carefully decorating the space in an abstract and contemporary way. Co-founder of Barde vanVoltt, Valérie Boerma told Dezeen, "The main objective was to pay respect to the monumental 100-year-old farmhouse that Calico Club moved into. The challenge was to find ways to add materials we could remove easily to keep the original state of the construction as it was."
