On July 24th, Toronto's The Drake Hotel will be hosting a deliciously sweet competition called 'The Great Canadian Butter Tart Battle.' With some of the best butter tart creations from across the province, the delicious competition helps "celebrate Ontario's greatest contribution to Canada's culinary lexicon."
A butter tart is a Canadian dessert that consists of a flaky pastry tart filled with a mixture of butter, sugar, syrup and eggs. The tart is then baked until the filling is semi-solid and the top is crunchy. The result is a gooey and indulgent pastry that is often considered one of Canada's quintessential desserts.
On July 24th, The Drake Hotel will honor the ultra-sweet treat with a competitive cook-off and tasting. At the event, butter tart bakers come together to share their version of the pastry and then the public is invited to sample and judge each dessert. Hosted by Ivy Knight and featuring DIY food art activities, The Great Canadian Butter Tart Battle puts a fun spin on Canada's favorite treat.
