Canadian artist Briony Douglas is known for her boundary-pushing works that explore mixed mediums and pop culture-inspired themes. Her latest exhibition was titled 'As Show With No Theme' and was recently unveiled to the public at 499 Queen St. West in Toronto.
When asked about the inspiration behind A Show With No Theme, Briony Douglas stated that "our whole lives we are told to fit inside boxes, who we end up with, what we should wear, what to do for a living--the list goes on. The way I see it, we only have one go at this life, and why not be happy doing it? Do all the things you want to do because there are no rules."
The artist also recounted being "told for so long to choose one avenue" and wished to highlight a variety of mediums in the exhibit. "There is no theme to this show; this is my life, my works of art and an extension of who I am," said Douglas.
Speaking further about the Canadian art scene and its everchanging landscape, the artist was optimistic for what the future holds. After a few years of the pandemic and art being exclusively limited to virtual spaces, Douglas is excited to experiences it in person again while interacting with art lovers beyond the internet.
