V2C Drowned Bottle Openers are Made with Amsterdam's Drowned Bikes
Laura McQuarrie — October 9, 2019 — Eco
Amsterdam gin brand V2C created the Drowned Bottle Openers to solve a unique problem and give a second life to a once-useful mode of transportation.
Amsterdam is known for its bicycles and well over a hundred canals—but each year, 15,000 bikes end up in the canals. V2C, working with creative agency SuperHeroes, developed a way for the bikes to be put to good use by reusing them as tools. The series of Drowned Bottle Openers isn't just made up of one design, but many, as each opener comes from a different part of a bicycle that's been lost to one of Amsterdam's many canals.
The limited-edition bottle openers made from scrap metal are handmade by Amsterdam-based craftsman and designer David Kroupa.
