I stumbled across this book store come coffee house whilst in Paris.
It was evening (around 8) and dark and cold out. The streets were very quiet, however, their was a warm light and a lot of movement coming from a shop window so I peeped in to check it out.
This book store come coffee house was buzzing with young, eclectic and inquisitive people both reading and quietly in converse whilst supping their coffee. Firstly the interior, with comic book illustrations on the wall and beanbag filled little private booths was superb. Secondly, it was a great USP for a book store to sell coffee and let young customers hang out like a social meeting spot. Thirdly, I felt it was a great example of the youth of today's preference for more rewarding and inquisitive persuades.
There is certainly a need for more places for young people to hang out (even if it isn't a book shop). This is especially the case in the UK as over here there are huge government and media concerns at present, regarding the huge rise in a drinking culture among teenagers hanging around streets. There is also a ridiculous binge drinking culture amongst over 18's.
