Juan Gurrea Rumeu Creates the Bolívar House in Barcelona
Amy Duong — February 4, 2024 — Art & Design
Spanish architect Juan Gurrea Rumeu relied on a warm tonal palette with textural materials when it came to designing the Bolívar House. It is made for himself and his wife Beatriz Dubois -- the home is located on the Carrer de Bolívar around a series of buildings that were built in various eras.
To combat the chaotic environment, his practice Gr-os works with local architects Mercè and Teresa Rumeu to create a tranquil home playing with light and space. Gurrea Rumeu tells Dezeen about navigating the light in the space, stating "Despite its complicated urban setting, surrounded by taller buildings and heavy traffic, the interior atmosphere is surprisingly peaceful. The position and scale of openings frames views and curates intimacy and light."
