Australia-based Streetboardz has developed the Boarder Kontrol, a snowboard with a built-in brake. The Kontrol is designed to be used by beginners who don't want to fall a million times in order to learn how to slow themselves down. The brake of the board is mounted in the rear and is controlled using a leash. When pulled, the brake slows the board in a straight line while also allowing the rider to carve (the technique normally used to stop a snowboard).
The brake of the Boarder Kontrol can be removed, which makes it easy to stack multiple boards at the same time. Streetboardz is looking at releasing its stoppable board at ski resorts as opposed to the commercial market. The boards have been tested at the Australian ski resort Thredbo and are set to launch their this winter.
