Roman Morschett is an architect who took on the design project of turning a timber house into a grass-filled orchard site dubbed the Bliesgau House. This is nestled in the rural southwest area of Germany and it was designed to honor the orchard setting and draw inspiration form the rural surroundings. To do so, it has a simple timber structure that rests low on the landscape and is right by the street to elevates its private spaces.
Morschett speaks to Dezeen about the design process, sharing "The design aimed to preserve the orchard's unique atmosphere while creating a strong connection to the garden. To achieve this, we proposed a straightforward timber construction whose materiality, colour and construction are reminiscent of agricultural architecture. As the narrow plot is flanked by the street, it was an appropriate strategy to build a long structure that separates the public space from the private area to the south."
