Blackfield by Zadok Ben-David, an artist based in London, United Kingdom, is a stunning installation made up of countless three dimensional floral etchings. They are so detailed, people may mistake them for real plant-life at first. Yet, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that is not the case at all. Especially since there are so many different species in one small area.
Made out of metal and individually hand-painted, Blackfield by Zadok Ben-David has been derived from illustrations appearing in 19th century Victorian encyclopedias. Each iteration is comprised of nearly 20,000 pieces. Planted into a circular or rectangular bed of white sand, which is a significate departure from richly nutrient dark soil, the sketch-like sculptures stand almost ominously in perfect rows.
