If Berlin has something boring than it’s the socialist blocks, but boring can be sometimes inspiring. Sergej Hein, an artist born in Latvia, created the Berlin Block Tetris animation after living in one of Berlin’s socialist blocks. The animation is made in After Effects without Plugins and it represents a parody of this dull style of building.
According to Sergej, Alexei Paschitnow, the inventor of Tetris, had kind of the same idea as he did, in Spring 1984. Apparently he looked out of the window of his block in Moscow and thought about how the soviet architects actually plan these buildings.
