PowerX, a Japanese company that is focused on helping to usher in the transition to a decarbonized future through the creation, design and manufacturing of high-tech solutions in the renewable energy realm, is set to launch a high-tech battery tanker that is designed to be able to haul renewable energy from place to place.
This battery tanker prototype, which measures in at a length of 140 meters, is designed to be able to carry up to 96 marine batteries with a total of 241 megawatt-hours of renewable energy.
This battery tanker aims to be able to transport surplus energy derived from renewable sources. For example, it could be used to extract unused energy from thermal power plants and then transferred to the grid.
Designed for the transmission of renewable energy over short distances, this battery tanker is also designed to be able to better withstand the seismic activity that Japan is known for when compared to under-sea cables.
