As a photographer and a mother of a young daughter with Down syndrome, Katie Driscoll was determined to create a back to school campaign that celebrates diversity in advertising, particularly with children who have disabilities.
Since Driscoll is responsible for co-founding a nonprofit called Changing the Face of Beauty, the #ImGoingBackToSchoolToo campaign was quickly set up. The charming back to school ads star four-year-old Cora Slocum, who has Down syndrome, as well as a group of other young girls who live with a range of disabilities.
The empowering school campaign makes it possible for a more diverse range of people to identify with what is presented in the media. In addition to individuals and organizations leading these initiatives, it's also promising to see a shift from big names in the fashion industry on diversity in advertising.
