Postmate's has revealed its second edition autonomous rover, titled Serve. Notable changes in the design include the robot's sensors. The autonomous robot will begin to perform deliveries in Los Angeles this year. The delivery robot was created by Ouster, which is a startup known for its lidar sensors.
The startup Ouster has a history of creating the lidar sensors which the autonomous rover uses to navigate. Lidar sensors are able to measure distance using laser technology to create 3D maps of the car's environment. This map then informs the robot's navigation system.
Ouster has also sold lidar sensors to companies in other industries that require the technology. Industries like robotics, drones, defense, security, and mining also implement lidar sensor technology.
