Sprout introduces a look at its new atmospheric water generator, which is a countertop kitchen gadget that alters humidity collected from the air and turns it into drinking water. The device is designed inspired by technology used by NASA and it measures about the size of a large coffee machine. To make this possible, it uses a rotating desiccant wheel to remove water molecules from the air.
The co-founder and CEO of the company, Reuben Vollmer shared more on the design with Dezeen, noting "The ceramic honeycomb is a marvel of molecular engineering. Utilizing zeolites, a material with microscopic pores, it acts like a sponge, attracting and trapping water molecules from the air. As it rotates, the honeycomb moves into a heated section, where the bonds holding the water are gently released, turning the captured vapor into liquid water through condensation."
