Upway Unveils New Bikes with the Artist Collaboration Series
Upway taps the help of two New York City-based artists Katie Merz and Jason Naylor to contribute their talents in the Artist Collaboration series. As a part of Earth Month, the joint efforts reimagine six e-bikes -- all of these are intricately crafted and packed with their artistic aesthetics. Notably, 10% of profits will be donated to Re:wild, which is a charity that is dedicated to biodiversity conservation.
Upway is putting forth its sustainability-centric mission by supporting local artists who share the same values. Jason's work is vibrant and colorful as he uses spray paint before coating the bike with varnish. He shares, "My collaboration with Upway is inspired by the energy of Brooklyn, visualized in full spectrum of color with electric hues and dynamic composition, which reflects the excitement of riding an Upway bike in the neighborhood. My vision supports the celebrations of Earth Month by inspiring those who see and ride these bikes to be bolder, brighter and better… and in turn doing their part to be better humans and making the world a better place."
Katie's art language centers around graphic visuals and her main medium is the use of markers, which she directly use on the bikes. She states, "I am deeply inspired by bikes—by the unparalleled freedom they offer and the enriched perspective they grant us on the world. That joy of moving freely through space on wheels combined with a joy of creating a very special language for each bike is similar to the joy of spring. A newness and a uniqueness is revealed with each bike creation. Each bike's inception is akin to cultivating a uniquely special flower. The warehouse serves as a vast canvas of potential movement and joy, waiting to become an integral part of someone's sense of liberation. Biking, Earth Month, and artistic expression—all are profoundly life-affirming pursuits. What an inspired combination they form for me!"
