It's only natural to wish that beloved deceased celebrities were still here today, and so artist Sara Zaher has created a portrait series of artificially aged celebrities from years past. Entitled 'Forever Young,' the series takes a somewhat ironic look at how society values youth, celebrity, pop culture and death.
It features the visages of famous icons from many different arenas of pop culture. Musicians are primary subjects of the series, including Kurt Cobain, Tupac Shakur, Amy Winehouse and Elvis Presley. Other artificially aged celebrities include Princess Diana and Marilyn Monroe. No matter the face, the combination of familiarity and strangeness in the photos create a sense of the uncanny, encouraging viewers to reexamine their relationship to the pop culture structure and the modern cult of celebrity.
