The new Apple Miami Worldcenter is set to open its doors officially this Friday. It was designed with a strong focus on art deco elements -- it was also the first of the chain to extensively use mass-timber construction. The space is designed by the in-house team and it functions as a standalone pavilion which continues to build on the existing Apple store locations whilst celebrating the art deco architecture of the city.
The retail design lead at Apple, BJ Siegel explained the influence behind the design to Dezeen, "We were inspired by softer, undulating surfaces and the articulation of mass found in the local art deco architecture to create a lighter, more dynamic result. In designing Apple Miami Worldcenter, we paid particular attention to the play of the light and shadow on all surfaces of the pavilion, sculpting the walls in and out while carving the base off the ground."
