According to some patents found by AppleInsider, Apple environmental sensors could be coming to your next iPhone or even iWatch. This means future mobile devices from Apple could be able to detect humidity, atmospheric pressure and temperature data. One patent in particular describes a sensor that measures not just these environmental aspects, but sound as well. This same patent also features a function for sound input, while another has a button for temperature reading.
These Apple environmental sensors make mobile devices more aware of their surroundings. While existing iPhones already have a microphone, the mics are not yet equipped to gather environmental information. This would come in handy not just for weather determination, but in collecting data about the user as well.
