Innovation keynote speaker Jeremy Gutsche, Trend Hunter's CEO, had the opportunity to be one of the first keynote speakers streamed on Meerkat for the SXSW launch of his new book.
The live-streaming app, Meerkat, took this year's SXSW by storm by granting individuals the opportunity to live stream their favorite moments, talks and keynotes from their smartphones directly onto Twitter. With an adorable little meerkat logo and clean yellow layout -- that might remind many of Snapchat -- the Meerkat app is being hyped as the next bit thing in live viewing.
At SXSW, Jeremy Gutsche, had the pleasure of being a SXSW Featured Session, delivering his innovation keynote while launching his new book Better and Faster. In a room of about 1,000 people, there were several dozen who were streaming their favorite parts onto Meerkat, with interacts through twitter.
"We came to SXSW in part to look for the 'next Twitter', so it was pretty cool to see the buzz about Meerkat," said Gutsche when asked to share his thoughts on the app. "You live stream right to Twitter and it can't be archived or seen again." This is a neat app for sharing moments live for people around the world to tune into, like an exclusive concert, after-party or in this case, keynote. "There were lots of people Meerkating my keynote," Gutsche says. "One guy said he had 50 people watching his Meerkat."
It'll be interesting to see if Meerkat's streaming properties compromises the traditional VIP feel of events or only accelerates it with the 'inability to archive' noted as a feature.
