Analogue announced the new Analogue Pocket 1.1 update for its retro-style handheld device. The Analogue Pocket is a proprietary device running on AnalogueOS that allows users to run various retro handheld games, such as Nintendo's GameBoy or GameBoy Color games, without emulation. The lack of emulation means these devices are fully legal, whereas emulation places devices in a legal gray area.
With Analogue Pocket 1.1, the device will host two new features, the 'Memories' and 'Library' features. Memories will allow players to record save files from cartridges on the device, place savefiles from the device on a cartridge, and even upload and share savefiles with other Analogue Pocket owners around the world.
The Library feature will serve as an encyclopedia for retro video games. The Library will showcase an ever-expanding array of games with details such as release date, platform, regions, box art, and more. On top of this, players will be able to use the Library feature to determine the exact version number and model of the game they are currently playing, as even retro games received changes over time on occasion.
